How Do I Quickly Graph Results?

Click Here To Print This Document.

Once you have logged into STARS and are at the Home page, follow these steps to quickly graph a set of results. There are two ways to select the pupil and package to display, choose the method from the links below:

Method 1 Select an individual pupil then graph results by class or Extended Group.
Method 2 Select a package item and a group of pupils to graph.

NOTE: Both methods produce the same graphs, the only difference between the two is how you select the package/pupils to graph. We advise that method 1 is the best way to review pupil results as this will only show you results that have been recorded for a pupil and are available to graph. Method two will allow you to select any package and group of pupils even when results have been not recorded.

Method 1: Select An Individual Pupil:

  • From the menu bar, click 'Pupil→Show'
  • Using the radio buttons and checkbox, select the class, Extended Group or archived class options.
  • The drop-down list will now show you classes or Extended Groups, select the appropriate one.

Either...

  • Click on the 'Class View' button to view all of the pupils in the selected class or Extended Group.
    • The class view screen displays details for all of the pupils in the class or group you selected.
    • To view the details for an individual pupil, click on the pupil name.

Or...

  • Click 'Accept' to continue.
  • Select the pupil to view from the 'Pupil' drop-down list and click 'Accept'.

The pupil details will now be displayed, scroll to the bottom part of the screen until you see 'View Pupil Achievements':

  • Click the 'On' radio button to display all of the achievement results recorded for this pupil.
  • Results are displayed in National Curriculum order, click on the package name of the item that you wish to produce a graph for.
  • STARS will now display the selected package and the pupil name. Select the group of pupils to be displayed by clicking on the pupil name, class name or Extended Group name (Extended Groups will only be displayed if the pupil is a member of one or more of these groups).
    • Clicking on the pupil name will display the results for the individual pupil only.
    • Clicking on the class name will display the results for all pupils in the class.
    • Clicking on an Extended Group will display the results for all pupils in the Extended Group.

You have now selected the pupil or group of pupils and their results will be displayed for each item in the package. Click on one of the graph icons above each column to produce a graph for the package item results.

  • Produce a graph showing the pupil name and the result they achieved. Pupils are displayed in result order from lowest to highest.
  • Produce a graph showing the percentage of pupils that achieved a result. This is useful when comparing different cohort groups of varying sizes to assess comparative results.
  • Produce a graph showing the number of pupils that achieved a result. This is useful when assessing results for groups of pupils but keeping the individual pupils anonymous.

NOTE: When producing a graph, if only one pupil is selected then the graph will display all of the pupils in the same class as the selected pupil. Otherwise, the class or Extended Group of pupils will be displayed on the graph.

Method 2: Select A Package And Group Of Pupils:

  • From the menu bar, click 'Achievement→Record & Display→Show'
  • Using the radio buttons and checkbox, select the class, Extended Group or archived class options.
  • The drop-down list will now show you classes or Extended Groups, select the appropriate one.
  • Select the school year of the results you wish to view. When a class is selected (as opposed to an Extended Group), the National Curriculum year that the class of pupils would have been in for the selected school year will be displayed below this drop-down.
  • Select the achievement package that you wish to view. Items displaying a '[+]' can be clicked on to expand the contents.
  • Check you have selected the correct group of pupils, school year and package then click 'Accept' to continue.

You have now selected the package and pupil or group of pupils, click on one of the graph icons above each column to produce a graph for the package item results.

NOTE: When producing a graph, if only one pupil is selected then the graph will display all of the pupils in the same class as the selected pupil. Otherwise, the class or Extended Group of pupils will be displayed on the graph.
